November 2009

Welcome to the Icecat Nation!

.....The University of Arizona Icecat Hockey team is excited about the upcoming season as we embark on our 31st year. In 30 seasons (608 wins - 186 losses - 23 ties), the Icecats have won a National Tournament (1985), appeared in 8 Final Fours ('84, '86, '87, '88, '91, '93, '94, '97) and 10 Elite Eights.

.....The Icecats play their home games at the Tucson Arena, "The Madhouse on Main Street", where last year over 80,000 fans came to watch exciting collegiate hockey action. We are one of the top draw's in all of collegiate hockey and our game attendance in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) is unmatched. Home games are broadcast on radio and the worldwide web.

.....The biggest misconception about our team though is its funding. The University of Arizona Icecats, affiliated with the U of A Department of Sports, receives no funding from the University, its athletic department or any state funds. Icecat Hockey, Inc., as its funding agent, raises money in order to rent the Tucson Arena for our games and practice, travel expenses and equipment.

We rely solely on sponsors, season ticket holders, souvenir sales (not TCC concession sales) and walk up attendance to continue to put together one of the most popular team sports at the University of Arizona. Your help and support is greatly appreciated for the team to continue to represent the University of Arizona, City of Tucson and Southern Arizona proudly.

Sincerely,

Leo Golembiewski

Head Coach and Founder
